About Me

About Bonnie

BActivePilates is run by Bonnie Ruddock, a certified Pilates Instructor.

My love of Pilates began in 2005, when I was studying Dance at the University of Surrey, taking weekly classes, immersing myself in the technique and learning about the history and core principles. I loved how Pilates made me feel – after every class I felt stronger, taller, more supple, it challenged my body and my balance. I never got bored, it was the one exercise class that I kept coming back to – one because I had a great instructor and because I loved how the exercises made me feel and the mindfulness that came with coordinating my breath to my movements. At the time I was commuting into London working in the dance sector, a job I loved but at times work demands were high so Pilates gave me that all important time out, to distract my mind from work, concentrate and focus on me for one hour.

I am very proud to say that I have worked for some amazing arts organisation in the past including East London Dance and as Learning and Participation for The Royal Ballet, project managing large scale creative learning projects, including the Royal Opera House’s largest education programme Chance to Dance, introducing young children to ballet.

I decided to train to become a Pilates instructor in 2012, as I wanted to help other people to enhance their posture, build flexibility, core strength and endurance. I undertook my Pilates Matwork training with Pilates Training Solution and have since undertaken further professional development, obtaining my ‘Pilates Small Equipment’ and ‘Antenatal and Postnatal’ qualifications. I completed the “Kids and Teens’ and ‘Pilates for Scoliosis’ course with APPI and did my Reformer training with Lisa B Pilates Academy for Teachers. I always strive to continue deepening my knowledge, skills and experience and never stop learning.

I aim to educate others on how to keep active, mobile and strong for lifelong health – to alleviate aches and pains so you can continue to do all the things you love. Our bodies were designed to move, movement is therapy! I practiced Pilates during my pregnancy and this helped me adapt to my changing body and re-build strength post birth. Having experienced the benefits I now get to support other pregnant women to keep active during their pregnancy, in a safe and modified way. I have taught group classes at a range of gyms, including Fitness First, Virgin Active, Nuffield Health, Fit4Less, Curtis & Staub and Aldershot Garrison. In 2016 I launched my own classes – BActivePilates and in 2019 made Pilates my sole focus, launching a small home studio in 2020. What started as one community class, has grown to include private, community, online, workplace and schools. I get to work with people from age 4 – 74! I am enthusiastic, ambitious and take great pride in the work I do, planning for clients, delivering with passion and creating meaningful relationships with clients to nurture them to the best of their ability. Helping people to achieve more in their daily lives through the practice of Pilates. You will work hard and be surprised at what your body can do but consistency is key to seeing results.

Beyond the mat, I am a wife and mum to two amazing boys who are my cheerleading team behind the scenes always supporting me in my Pilates passion. My children often showcase their Pilates skills to me, love joining in on the mat and I hope to inspire them to lead active, healthy lives and discover their own hobbies to support their wellbeing.  I believe that everyone should find a form of physical exercise that they enjoy and can maintain for lifelong health.

What Others Are Saying

Your classes are fun and motivating but also very challenging. You correct us when we do something wrong, but in a very discreet way.

You are friendly, passionate about what you do, are very thorough with your classes and generous with your time. I feel I can completely trust you as a teacher to show me the right moves. The sessions are challenging, but there is enough that I can do so that I keep motivated.

Your positivity. The clarity of your explanations. Your flexibility- (not your ability to touch your toes!) I mean tailoring the programme to the individual!
