“First educate the child” Joseph Pilates

Pilates for Students

Inspiring primary and secondary pupils to lead active healthy lives, with Pilates classes designed to provide an introduction to Pilates and support the National Curriculum for PE. Focusing on the components of fitness to develop good posture, core strength and stability, mobility and flexibility, strength, technique, balance, control and coordination.

“The session was great the children loved it and I feel they gained a great deal from having an expert perform the session for them. The other teacher said their session was great too! Highlighting the children that held a particular pose well always makes them feel great too.  I know the other classes are looking forward to next week!” Mr Fletcher, Year 6 Teacher, Velmead Junior School (October 2020)

We had lots of fun putting their balance to the test, talking about how many vertebrae are in the spine, why its important to have a strong core, be flexible and encourage good posture! I was super impressed with how focused and engaged these Year 6 students were and they had lots of great questions for me at the end specifically how Pilates can support and assist their other sports and physical activities.

Pilates for Teachers & Staff

Focusing on staff and teacher well-being, these Pilates classes are designed to encourage staff to step away from their work, do something for themselves and provide that welcomed time out to focus, stretch and re-energise. Pilates is an excellent enhancement to the workplace and many employers now recognise the many health benefits of fitness classes at a time that is convenient for employees, bringing teams together.

“Bonnie led Pilates workshops at a staff wellbeing day we held in March 2020. Her approachable manner, professionalism and efficiency made it very easy to plan and work with her. Staff thoroughly enjoyed her sessions and it enabled them to consider how to fit Pilates into their everyday life.” Katie Lye, Improvement Advisor, The Kite Academy Trust

Pilates workshops were delivered for the Kite Academy Trust as part of a well-being day hosted for their 450+ staff. Hosted at Lakeside Primary Academy, Frimley, the event gave staff the opportunity to try new activities, and inform them of well-being topics and products.

“We contacted Bonnie from BActivePilates to run Pilates workshops for Reception to Year 3 cohorts during Place2Be’s Children’s Mental Health week 7-11th February 2022. Bonnie was quick in her response and was able to accommodate the specific needs of the schools and times that were required. Bonnie was so informative during the booking stage, providing clear guidelines of what to expect and what was required to run the sessions successfully. She also enquired about any children who would need adaptations or support due to their physical mobility in order to ensure they could fully engage in the session. During the session, the children first listened to a story to help them visualise the body poses and movements they were going to perform. Then they performed 6 key body poses to develop core strength, breathing techniques and develop flexibility. All year groups enjoyed the sessions, and the children were keen to practise later in the day. It was wonderful to see the children engaged throughout the session and we were so impressed with their flexible body movements. They were much better than the staff members who took part!”
